your guide to the cosmic body

I started dancing at the age of three…and never stopped. For me, movement is my source of joy and expression but it’s also how I integrate and come to understand the world around me. Once I feel something in my bones, I know it’s real.

When I was 10, I began accompanying my mom to Sunday morning yoga classes at our local YMCA. I hated it. I found it to be quite boring…as I imagine most 10-year-olds do. But my practice stayed with me and supported me in countless ways throughout my career as a professional dancer. By the time I set out to become a yoga teacher, 5 years ago, my relationship with yoga had become so much deeper with a desire to help people simply find ease in their bodies. It was so much less about the perfect handstand and more about the deeper breath.

Coincidentally (or perhaps not), my yoga and astrology studies started to deepen at the same time. I’ve always had a slight flirtation with astrology. This fascinating world that always seemed to resonate with me (being a loud and proud Leo). When I was in college I bought a giant astrology book (yes, I do still have it) and read it cover to cover, attempting to cobble together the birth charts of friends and roommates with a protractor and pencil. Looking back, it felt like I was diving into a secret world and I was serving as the translator of this cosmic language to the people sitting on the floor of my dorm room.

As a Mercury-ruled, Virgo rising, I love learning more information and figuring out how to put it into my body. In many ways, astrology and yoga are so deeply intertwined in my mind. The more I learn about the cosmos, the deeper I drop into my own inner solar system, as a way to digest and comprehend these grandiose ideas.
